Kids Fun Run
What is the Kiwanis Fun Run?
The Kiwanis Kids Fun Run is an annual non-competitive fun run for kids from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. The Fun Run is held the last Saturday in July (July 26, 2008) at Memorial Park in Wilsonville. The Run kicks off at 10:00 am and includes a community barbeque.
What is the Purpose of the Kids Fun Run?
The Fun Run has three main purposes:
- First, raise funds to support local youth programs, such as the Wilsonville Community Center, the Children’s Library, Wilsonville High School Key Club, Boys/Girls Aid Society and scholarships to enable local economically disadvantaged kids to participate in sports, arts, music and other activities that will build self-esteem and help them break the cycle of poverty.
- Second, provide a family-oriented community wide event that builds kids’ self-esteem through a non-competitive run. Every kid is a winner and every participant receives a Fun Run T-shirt and they are awarded a Fun Run medal at the conclusion of the run.
- Third, enhance the image of our community as a family-friendly high-quality place to live and visit.
Why Should I Sponsor the Kiwanis Kids Fun Run?
Your sponsorship of the Kiwanis Kids Fun Run ensures a quality event for local families and illustrates your business’s interest in helping to alleviate risk problems faced by our young people.
What are Some Examples of Past Scholarships?
Here are some examples of past scholarships awarded by the Wilsonville Kiwanis Club with proceeds from the Fun Run:
- Sending physically disadvantaged youth to summer camp
- Paying tuition for local kids to participate in soccer and baseball
- Funding the Library’s Summer Reading Program
- Buying Christmas gifts for children who otherwise would not receive a gift.
How Many Kids Participate in the Fun Run?
The 2005 run drew nearly 100 runners: 160 participated in 2006; and nearly 250 kids ran in 2007. Each year the turnout has increased substantially over the prior year. With parents, grandparents, siblings, vendors and volunteers, total attendance was nearly 800 in 2007.
Through increased community recognition of the event, event marketing and advertising, we plan to attract more than 500 runners and 1,500 total attendees to the 2008 run. This increase is consistent with similar events across the country and illustrates their popularity.
Who Decides How the Money is Spent?
The Grant Award Committee of the Wilsonville Kiwanis determines where the funds can do the greatest good.
How do I Become a Sponsor?
To become a sponsor, simply complete the Sponsorship Registration Form at the back of this packet and mail it to Wilsonville Kiwanis by April 15, 2008.
How Else Can I help?
There are three additional ways you can help with the 2008 Fun Run:
- We need approximately 100 volunteers on the day of the event to help set up the course, staff various booths, provide security and cheer the runners. Encourage your employees, co-workers and family members to help at the Run. Volunteers can register at www.kidsfunrun.org. Pre-registered volunteers receive an event T-Shirt and recognition in the Wilsonville Spokesman.
- Allow Kiwanis to display event posters at your business.
- Encourage fellow business leaders to sponsor the run. Local Kiwanians are willing to help you make these contacts. Simply call Donna Bane at 503-694-1477 or Eric Evans at 503-694-1157 to set an appointment.
What is Kiwanis?
Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization dedicated to serving children, especially children in need.
The philosophy of the Wilsonville Kiwanis Club is that “ every kid matters.” We believe that too many kids are at-risk. We also believe that physical activity, recreation and structured leadership programs can play a positive role in the development of young people and in reducing youth-related risk factors.
You can learn more about Kiwanis at www.Kiwanis.org and you can learn more about Wilsonville Kiwanis and the 2008 Kids Fun Run by visiting our web site at www.kidsfunrun.org.
